Impact Studies

IMPACT STUDY 1 is a five-year study of the impact of the reform in schools. The research is being undertaken by researchers from the University of Wollongong and Tanorama in PNG. The research is case study based and is investigating the reform process in 12 locations throughout PNG. Schools from each region are included in the sample. Two visits are made to each site by researchers each year and the research team provides six monthly progress reports to a Study Steering Committee. IMPACT STUDY 2 was undertaken in 2001 by the PNG National Research Institute. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Catch-up inservice for Bridging to English conducted by CRIP in the second half of 2001. The information gained form this report was used to develop the new inservice programs to support the implementation of the reform curriculum.

IMPACT STUDY 3 was conducted by the PNG National Research Institute and reviewed the Curriculum Reform Support Program. This is a program of small grants to innovative or lighthouse schools. Funding is on a competitive basis and school proposals are assessed and ranked by a provincial committee chaired by the Senior Primary School Inspector. IMPACT STUDY 4 is a two-year longitudinal study of the effectiveness, quality and outcomes of the processes used to develop, distribute and implement the new upper primary syllabuses. It is being undertaken by a consortium comprising the University of South Australia and the University of Goroka.

IMPACT STUDY 5 is evaluating the effectiveness of the door-to-door distribution of elementary and upper primary curriculum materials. The study is being undertaken by the Divine Word University and the University of South Australia. To view the report click here.

IMPACT STUDY 6 being undertaken by Deakin University and PNG National Research Institute, is evaluating the quality and impact of the elementary curriculum and implementation support strategies.
