In 2004 AusAID approved an extension of CRIP to enable the team to assist the PNG Department of Education to review and redevelop the lower secondary curriculum for grades 9 and 10. The development of new outcomes-based syllabuses has been completed and these have been approved by the Secondary Board of Studies as trial syllabuses. These have been released and will be trialed in schools during 2006. Teacher support materials will be developed during 2006. The draft syllabuses are available from the Curriculum Sub-Section.

A review of current assessment and examination systems has been completed and will be used to guide the review of the grade 8 and 10 assessment and examination procedures. This work will be completed by the end of 2006.

The CRIP Inservice team, in liaison with the DoE, has developed a teacher professional development program using the concept of school-based learning teams to support the implementation of the changes.
